He finds himself drinking a bottle of rumune, his mouth pushing the ball around as a girl comes down the stairs, he sees her and pauses. He turns his head and stares at her, looking slightly annoyed. She waves awkwardly, turns around and disappears out of sight. He's confused, then he looks down at a bag sitting against the unfinished stage.
He sighs, his heart feels an ache of something familiar and he licks his lips, finishing the last traces of his drink. He picks up the bag and take sit to lost and found, he finds himself in the room that night. There's a picture he pulls out from underneath the bed, there's six kids and himself at 8 years old, all hugging and smiling for the camera. There's a little girl with flipped hair and green overalls. He knows exactly who that girl was.
He remembers it like yesterday, being at the Orphanage. He doesn't equip his guardian forces all that often, just long enough to draw magic when out on the field. It doesn't take his memories away quite as much. The pain of remembering is swift and cutting, he hates the way Ellone's arms feel around him in his fantasies, his big sister cuddling him and playing mega blocs with him.

He dislikes the idea of his own freedom being taken from him.
Zell is the one who protests, which is a five minute argument from him and a interjection from Selphie. He appreciates Selphie's interjection rather than Zell's whining. Finally Selphie smacks him on the arm, telling him shush. He wonders if Selphie remembers them to feel that friendly in hitting him. Squall ponders as Cid says something surprising: you must protect Rinoa Heartilly to the end of this mission and assassinate her afterward.

He's flabbergasted by this but decides not to comment.
Rinoa swings into him and he realizes something. This young woman, thinks she can outsmart him. She's not interested in him at all, she acts like he's her soulmate but really, she's thinking of how to outsmart him and kill him before he kills her. Here's the thing about Rinoa and Squall; my Squall had a crush on Selphie at first. The story of Rinoa and Squall is absolutely forced, until...he goes out into space. Let's keep going.
They defeat the thing that's supposed to be Vinzer Deling. Then at the broadcast station, Seifer runs in and gets captured by Sorceress Edea. Rinoa keeps challenging him to think for himself. He's getting angry because he's a good SeeD and he has a mission statement. He's worried about Seifer the whole time, but Selphie and him talk more than his offscreen time suggests. She qualms his fears more than Rinoa, so does Quistis and Zell. He doesn't really voice it too much, but they keep comforting him in a strange way. It annoys him.
They meet up with Irvine, and he's an irritating guy. He tries taking Selphie and Rinoa, which only serves to … he actually is irritated. This guy is here to protect Rinoa. Great, he also has his sights on Selphie. He pretends he doesn't care and walks away.
Selphie rejoins his party and boops him on the nose, running ahead to Deling. He faintly smiles, she gets it he guesses. They get into Deling and they're shown around, how they're going to destroy Sorceress Edea. They get separated from Rinoa, the annoying girl, and he realizes he's worried about her. Without meaning to be. Zell, Selphie and Quistis take care of the first part. The second part, he has to Rescue Rinoa from the top tower from two statues that came to life as lizards. She clings to him and he ignores her, she's like Zell, whiney and scared. At least she admits it. He tells her, she'll be fine. She'll have to stand on her own sometimes, she won't always have her comrades.
She sighs and nods, they walk out together. Irvine fails in his mission to defeat Edea, Squall hijacks a car with Rinoa and Irvine to get on Edea's float. He's crestfallen to see Seifer become a bad guy but a mission is a mission. He decides he won't kill him, because he comes from Balamb but otherwise, he has to be taken down.
The battle with Edea is difficult and Squall gets an ice icicle to the chest, he ends up fall off the float and doesn't remember much more of that. As he lays there dying, he looks up at Rinoa's face, staring quizzical, he realizes she looks like a crying baby. His heart aches and he falls into a deep sleep.
In the prison, he wakes up and wonders how he's alive. His chest should have a gaping hole. It doesn't. Seifer comes in and it's weird, quite weird, he knows now for a fact that Seifer spared him and he spared Seifer. Something about Edea is off. Him and Seifer put on a good show and argue.
By the end of it, they get everyone out of the prison, because Rinoa and Irvine show back up. They separate and truthfully, he wants to go with Selphie, and Zell and Quistis to the missile base and make Irvine take Rinoa back to Garden to do that job but Selphie surprises him, she wants to stand on her own. He stares at her, she winks discreetly and runs off toward the train with Quistis and Irvine. Zell, Rinoa and him head for Balamb instead.
In Balamb, they learn the Garden is mobile. Exciting. Rinoa and him grow closer, his heart starts to melt some. Maybe... she isn't playing around. Maybe she's actually into him. He's not confused, he's not brainwashed but he still doesn't trust a known sorceress. In secret, she kisses him on the cheek, and he feels his face heat up. He scowls and tells her back off. Rinoa scowls back and they separate that night.
In Fisher Man's Horizon, he sees Rinoa and almost falls in love. She is gorgeous, beautiful even, but her face isn't a readable as he'd like. It's like it changed entirely. He sees Selphie in dreams, crying and sobbing. His chest hurts, it's kind of a strange astral projection, he wants to comfort but she cries by herself. He whispers 'Come home.' She looks around, alerted and scared. 'Go away, Squall.' She shivers. 'Go away!' He frowns, wakes up with a start. He puts his head in his hands and cries.
The next day, they have to defeat another robot. He secretly rolls his eyes when he sees it, what's up with these scrap heaps? After the defeat, Selphie, Quistis and Irvine come flying out. His eyes widen a little, his heart jumps in his chest. He looks away and smiles. Quistis and Selphie both run up to him and hug him. He's standoffish but he hasn't been hugged in a long time. He feels warm all over.
Irvine scowls, Squall feels satisfied for some reason. He doesn't like to admit, he does. He sees Rinoa's face, she seems … unappeased. He walks away, and within the week. They have their final battle with Sorceress Edea, who turns out to be Matron. Someone they used to love as children. Rinoa falls into a deep sleep, but Squall.. freaks out about something; she's sleeping to converse with Sorceress Ultemicia. It freaks him straight the heck out. He knows it's his duty to keep tabs on her at all times.
Now he and Seifer have a permanent mental link and they're thinking of how to take down Rinoa in general before Ultemicia becomes a thing. He connects to Selphie, and she's surprised. She runs away more than he does. Next comes Zell. He keeps Rinoa and Quistis out of the loop. Irvine as well. He doesn't trust that guy. During the third disc, they get to Esthar, where Rinoa is studied and it's concluded the only way she can wake up is in space. Squall actually means to seal her in space like Adel, but unfortunate for them, they end up in going to space officially.
Squall admits he's never felt this way before, he's conflicted, but also he has to make it look good in front of the scientist. As he gets into space. he hears Rinoa's thoughts. 'Did I...? Did I make him …? I'll destroy everything if I'm not rescued.' Squall rescues her in time and they get inside a space ship. Inside Rinoa tries to hug him, and he's annoyed. Again. She's an annoying, selfish little princess brat. She ends up sitting in his lap after they defeat eight aliens of color coded soulmates.
He realizes, she knows she dies. But she reveals a secret through her mind '....I have to help fix the world. I'm sorry for manipulating you like this. Usually I'm cunning but I can't die. Selphie is my sister and she practices real witchcraft. I don't need... books or spells. I can just do things.' Squall hugs her then and realizes something, Rinoa isn't doing this to hurt him but rather, help him become a commander. A King as predicted. She also...oddly has a crown on her own. What's her game? She doesn't even need him.

That night he looks outside the window, watching the stars. 'Train Train, take us away. To a far away land no one knows.' He hears in his head. 'I love you too.' He swallows hard and tells her. She doesn't feel worthy, he realizes.
On Earth Rinoa is almost sealed, then he realizes, she plans on setting space on fire if she doesn't get her way. She was unusually mean to Selphie, because Edea made it so. Quistis and her started gaining up on Selphie. By the time Selphie was ten and ready for Garden, she cut off her long luscious locks and Squall knew why; Quistis made her do it.
Squall remembers being the bathroom with her, and frowning. She cried, shrugging her shoulders when he asked; Why did you do it? Selphie smiled, hiccuped and said; I needed a change. Then a week later they're separated, Selphie and Irvine and Rinoa go to Deling, Selphie by herself to Trabia, a cold area, and the rest to Balamb.
In the Lunatic Pandora, he keeps Selphie (Mandy) by his side and Rinoa in the Ragnorok, claiming he can protect her better from there. They go inside, and Seifer is manipulated by Rinoa and he knows it. She puts herself in dangerous situation. She's fused with Adel (Rhonda), and they're forced to attack slowly but surely with physical attacks. Singular junctioned magic spells. They defeat her and his big sister Ellone(Jamie) shows up, she wants to help!
She sends them into the future. Once there, they go to the castle and defeat all the Guardian Forces. Rinoa and Him argue quite a lot, Selphie eventually intervenes and points at the door. 'Get out out, you imbecilic child. We have a mission to do!' Rinoa quiets down, looking angry.
After they defeat Ultemicia, his last party of three Is Selphie, Zell and himself. Together they take out Ultemicia while Selphie heals the party. Unfortunately, as Selphie runs at Squall and goes to kiss him. The world goes white, and they're separated. He hears Selphie during Time Compression. 'Where are you? Where have you gone? Squall? Come on? Let's go!
It's Rinoa that finds him, as she does. He has hear attack and dies. While in suspended death, he hears Selphie in his head. 'Baby, you okay? Okay, you're good. Rinoa didn't expect that.' Rinoa looks at Squall in surprise when he wakes up, and he smiles. "Let's head home."
Before the Party that night, after gratefully seeing Seifer(Cole) alive, Irvine and Seifer hug Rinoa and says something peculiar to her that makes Squall snort a laugh. "You always win, don't you?" Rinoa flipped her hair and said. "Always. You know that, Seify." He left Rinoa and Squall alone. He went to see Selphie, he picked her up and spun her around. "Hey, baby girl!" She punched him on the shoulder. "Hey, big guy. How's it hanging? Short, shriveled and to the left?" Irvine grinned. "let me go hit on Quistis a bit and see if I can distract."
Selphie grins and punches the air. "We got this." Squall watches in amusement and blows her a kiss when she sees him. She blushes and looks away with a smile. The party goes on, Selphie gets angry at Irvine for being serious with Quistis but not because she wants him, Squall realizes, but because Quistis is shallow and surely, she has better things to do than fuck a man she has nothing in common with... unless she pretends to.
Selphie is disgusted at the amount of hotdogs Zell(Mike Bell) eats and she tells him from across the room. 'Sthap. No more. Those things are gross. Try veggie pizza!' As Squall and Rinoa stand outside. Selphie watches as the stars sparkle. She tells Squall telepathically 'Run inside and lock the doors after you pray.' Squall turns to Quistis and smiles, as she points up at the sky. Squall leans in, pushes her and runs inside and locks the doors behind her.
Seifer pushes Rinoa into the balcony at the same time, he runs inside. They scream and cry together as Squall and Seifer break into a laugh. Selphie hugs both around the neck, knocking their heads together. 'WHY ARE ALL THE STARS GONE?' Quistis yells. Selphie goes to the window and looks out. She opens the balcony doors and goes to sit in a chair and ends up crossing her legs and staring up. "There's one left." Rinoa turns to her with a scowl. "Where? I don't see it!"
Selphie tips her brother's cowboy hat. "Oh, I see it. It's the north star. Bye Rinoa, head on home now. Okay?" She gets up and walks back inside, sashaying her hips purposely. "I'm so jealous, you're right." She looks back with a look of amusement and fingerguns. Squall crosses his arms and kisses Selphie on the forehead. "Good Job. Mission Complete."
Rinoa stomps out, Quistis glares and everyone celebrates. Sarah the library girl, even joins in. Xu too, Nida comes next and the party is a success.
POST-GAME
That night, Squall and Selphie sit in the quad, sharing sandwiches and talking about the events they had gone through. An explosion rocks the Garden, and they hear screams and cries outside...…
The last thing Squall remembers is something he doesn't want to. Selphie being taken prisoner. He wakes up in a different world, grizzled, bearded, and angry. So angry he hurts inside. She's an annoying, selfish little princess brat. She ends up sitting in his lap after they defeat eight aliens of color coded soulmates.
He realizes, she knows she dies. But she reveals a secret through her mind '....I have to help fix the world. I'm sorry for manipulating you like this. Usually I'm cunning but I can't die. Selphie is my sister and she practices real witchcraft. I don't need... books or spells. I can just do things.' Squall hugs her then and realizes something, Rinoa isn't doing this to hurt him but rather, help him become a commander. A King as predicted. She also...oddly has a crown on her own. What's her game? She doesn't even need him.
Squall realizes something absolute, he's never been more in love with anyone more in his life. During the song Rinoa cries, she thinks she's going to die and she might. She kisses him on the lips that night, and they make love. In a dream that night, Selphie lays on her side and cries so hard. Squall wakes up with a start and starts crying too. Rinoa wakes up and tries to kiss him. Squall shoves her off and goes to a different cell. They don't talk to each other for the next day.

She can bring about the end and rapture if she chooses. In parts as practice. Squall cries even harder in bed that night, he doesn't deserve a crown, at least that's what he thinks.
That night he looks outside the window, watching the stars. 'Train Train, take us away. To a far away land no one knows.' He hears in his head. 'I love you too.' He swallows hard and tells her. 'Do something with me right now?' Selphie he can see through their mental link shakes her head. He says 'Make love to me. This way. Until this is over.' Selphie refuses. She doesn't feel worthy, he realizes.
On Earth Rinoa is almost sealed, then he realizes, she plans on setting space on fire if she doesn't get her way. Then he realizes, Rinoa was a two year old girl at the orphanage that they kept saying was Selphie and Quissy's sister. All she did was cry and demand she get her way. She was unusually mean to Selphie, because Edea made it so. Quistis and her started gaining up on Selphie. By the time Selphie was ten and ready for Garden, she cut off her long luscious locks and Squall knew why; Quistis made her do it.
Squall remembers being the bathroom with her, and frowning. She cried, shrugging her shoulders when he asked; Why did you do it? Selphie smiled, hiccuped and said; I needed a change. Then a week later they're separated, Selphie and Irvine and Rinoa go to Deling, Selphie by herself to Trabia, a cold area, and the rest to Balamb.
In the Lunatic Pandora, he keeps Selphie (Mandy) by his side and Rinoa in the Ragnorok, claiming he can protect her better from there. They go inside, and Seifer is manipulated by Rinoa and he knows it. She puts herself in dangerous situation. She's fused with Adel (Rhonda), and they're forced to attack slowly but surely with physical attacks. Singular junctioned magic spells. They defeat her and his big sister Ellone(Jamie) shows up, she wants to help!
She sends them into the future. Once there, they go to the castle and defeat all the Guardian Forces. Rinoa and Him argue quite a lot, Selphie eventually intervenes and points at the door. 'Get out out, you imbecilic child. We have a mission to do!' Rinoa quiets down, looking angry.
After they defeat Ultemicia, his last party of three Is Selphie, Zell and himself. Together they take out Ultemicia while Selphie heals the party. Unfortunately, as Selphie runs at Squall and goes to kiss him. The world goes white, and they're separated. He hears Selphie during Time Compression. 'Where are you? Where have you gone? Squall? Come on? Let's go!
It's Rinoa that finds him, as she does. He has hear attack and dies. While in suspended death, he hears Selphie in his head. 'Baby, you okay? Okay, you're good. Rinoa didn't expect that.' Rinoa looks at Squall in surprise when he wakes up, and he smiles. "Let's head home."
Before the Party that night, after gratefully seeing Seifer(Cole) alive, Irvine and Seifer hug Rinoa and says something peculiar to her that makes Squall snort a laugh. "You always win, don't you?" Rinoa flipped her hair and said. "Always. You know that, Seify." He left Rinoa and Squall alone. He went to see Selphie, he picked her up and spun her around. "Hey, baby girl!" She punched him on the shoulder. "Hey, big guy. How's it hanging? Short, shriveled and to the left?" Irvine grinned. "let me go hit on Quistis a bit and see if I can distract."
Selphie grins and punches the air. "We got this." Squall watches in amusement and blows her a kiss when she sees him. She blushes and looks away with a smile. The party goes on, Selphie gets angry at Irvine for being serious with Quistis but not because she wants him, Squall realizes, but because Quistis is shallow and surely, she has better things to do than fuck a man she has nothing in common with... unless she pretends to.
Selphie is disgusted at the amount of hotdogs Zell(Mike Bell) eats and she tells him from across the room. 'Sthap. No more. Those things are gross. Try veggie pizza!' As Squall and Rinoa stand outside. Selphie watches as the stars sparkle. She tells Squall telepathically 'Run inside and lock the doors after you pray.' Squall turns to Quistis and smiles, as she points up at the sky. Squall leans in, pushes her and runs inside and locks the doors behind her.
Seifer pushes Rinoa into the balcony at the same time, he runs inside. They scream and cry together as Squall and Seifer break into a laugh. Selphie hugs both around the neck, knocking their heads together. 'WHY ARE ALL THE STARS GONE?' Quistis yells. Selphie goes to the window and looks out. She opens the balcony doors and goes to sit in a chair and ends up crossing her legs and staring up. "There's one left." Rinoa turns to her with a scowl. "Where? I don't see it!"
Selphie tips her brother's cowboy hat. "Oh, I see it. It's the north star. Bye Rinoa, head on home now. Okay?" She gets up and walks back inside, sashaying her hips purposely. "I'm so jealous, you're right." She looks back with a look of amusement and fingerguns. Squall crosses his arms and kisses Selphie on the forehead. "Good Job. Mission Complete."
Rinoa stomps out, Quistis glares and everyone celebrates. Sarah the library girl, even joins in. Xu too, Nida comes next and the party is a success.
POST-GAME
That night, Squall and Selphie sit in the quad, sharing sandwiches and talking about the events they had gone through. An explosion rocks the Garden, and they hear screams and cries outside...…
The last thing Squall remembers is something he doesn't want to. Selphie being taken prisoner. He wakes up in a different world, grizzled, bearded, and angry. So angry he hurts inside. His chest aches as his hair has gotten longer, and he remembers Selphie crying out to him. His memories are unclear, but he knows if he doesn't find Selphie in time, they die. She dies. That everyone fucking dies. It's not going to work with anyone else but her and he doesn't want it to.
Please, let Squall find Selphie. *SCOWLS.* STOP THIS. YOU'RE NOT SELPHIE. YOU'RE QUISTIS.
